Student Assistance Program
We take a comprehensive approach to preventing substance use, promoting mental health, and supporting academic success.

A Layered Approach
C3 Wellbeing’s not-for-profit Student Assistance Program works with each school’s internal referral process. Student Assistance Counselors collaborate with school support teams to help ensure students receive the right level of support at the right time. Students receive additional support through this team-based approach as needs are identified.
- Universal support for all students
- Targeted support for students who may need extra
assistance - Intensive, individualized interventions for students with more significant needs

Specially Trained Experts
Our Student Assistance Counselors are specially trained in
prevention within school settings. Their role isn’t to diagnose or treat mental health or substance use conditions, but to:
- Identify students who may benefit from early support
- Help students better understand themselves and make healthy, positive choices
- Offer proven prevention education and early intervention
- Connect students with behavioral health resources when needs go beyond the school
- Partner with school staff and families to coordinate
support
“What meant the most to me was knowing the school had this level of care built into its support system.”

Screening, Early Identification, and Referral
Our screening model and confidential multi-access referral process help ensure that students receive consistent, developmentally appropriate screenings and assessments.
- Screening
Our Student Assistance Counselors provide confidential screenings to better understand each student’s risks, needs, and strengths. - Multi-Access Referral System
Students may be referred to our Student Assistance Program by parents or caregivers, school staff, administrators, peers, or self-referral. All referrals are reviewed and managed by our Student Assistance Counselors. - Whole Student Assessment
In addition to the screening, our Student Assistance Counselors complete a comprehensive assessment that explores academic, behavioral, family, peer and community factors that guide our level of support. - Brief Individual Intervention
Students referred to our Student Assistance Counselors receive short-term, solution-focused support (typically up to five sessions) focused on problem identification and building positive strategies. - Small Groups
Based on individual needs, students may participate in small groups lasting 6-12 weeks that focus on skill-building and peer support. - School Support Teams Integration
The Student Assistance Program works with each school’s internal referral processes. Student Assistance Counselors collaborate with school support teams to help ensure students receive the right level of support at the right time.
